TMS320DM8168: TMS320DM8168 Processor is Hanging while streaming video

Hello All,

We have designed a custom board based on DM8168 processor. The issue is when i run the gst pipeline for streaming or capturing the video the board is get hanging. Hardware point of view we have verified all power, reset , clocks and all looks fine, even when the board hangs all power,clock,resets are stable. Is there anything to check on DDR3 ? We are using micron DDR3 part MT41K128M16JT-125 and is already verified in the old production batch. We are seeing this issue on newly assembled boards , is this because of DSP core? Any suggestions?

And i have read the old thread and the issue looks similar to what we are seeing(below is the thread), is that solved? any updates from the user?

Below is the gst pipeline we are using to stream video:

Do you mean that streaming/capturing video works fine on your old boards and hang on new boards only? What is the difference between old and new boards? Are you able to stream/capture video successful with your gst pipeline on the DM816x TI EVM?

Hi Pavel,

We have assembled 15 boards, out of which 5 boards have this issue, what i observed is that hang is inconsistent, and it may happen at any time. What i guess is other boards also may be marginally passing. One thing is Older version has different board size and routing, this is the new customized board with reduced dimensions. We haven't updated DDR3 leveling parameters and retaining older uboot itself, is there anything to be changed/ updated in uboot ? because with the same uboot we are seeing other 10 boards are running.
Unfortunately we don't have DM816x TI EVM to check.

Can you please suggest some points on this?

You might first check DDR3 memory with stress test:

You can also run your gst pipeline in lowest DDR3 frequency possible. If it pass, then most probably SW leveling is needed.

Hi Pavel,

Can you please let us know how to configure ddr to the lowest frequency in linux operating system. We are using Linux 2.6.37-psp04.04.00.01.

The TI EZSDK is TI-EZSDK-DM816X-EVM_5_05_02_00.

Thanks for your help. We tried reducing DDR3 frequency to 400Mhz, and it is passing. Now can you please suggest the way to do SW leveling?
