AM4376: CLKOUT1 specification

Part Number: AM4376

Hi,

The TRM 6.6.14 CLKOUT Signals of AM 437x has the following description.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CLKOUT 1 and CLKOUT 2 signals go device pads and should be used as debug testpoints.
Figure 6-17 shows the different clock sources coming from the PLL or master oscillator and their routing to
CLKOUT 1 and CLKOUT 2 pads. The CLKOUT 1 and CLKOUT 2 signals go to device pads and can
Used as source clocks for FPGAs or other system devices.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that the following two interpretations can be made.
1. It should be used for debugging, not suitable for clocking external devices.
2. It can be used as clock supply for external devices such as FPAG.

I am concerned about the accuracy of clkout1 of AM437x. In AM335x, clkout1 was described as poor accuracy and should be used for debug.

Best Regards,
Shigehiro Tsuda

  • Hi,

Additional information can be found in sections 5.13.2.4 and 5.13.2.5.1 of the AM437x Datasheet Rev. D. Generally, as shown on Figure 6-17 in the TRM, if CLKOUT1 is selected by SYSBOOT5 = 1, this will drive the main oscillator frequency directly on the pin without software intervention.
