DVSDK 4.00 Release Notes?

I'm currently using DVSDK 3.10 for the DM365.  I am considering moving up to DVSDK 4.00, but I don't know if there's any advantage to doing so for my setup.  I would like to look at the release notes to see a detailed list of what changed between version 3.10 and version 4.00, but I didn't see one on the DVSDK download page.  Is there a way for me to see what's changed and what the known issues are before I download the DVSDK 4.00 Installer?

Thanks,

Bryan

  • Hi Bryan,

Unfortunately you won't have access to the release notes before you download the installer today, we may change this for the GA release. We've been trying not to clutter the download page with lots of download links, but we of course listen to feedback.

The download page has a description of which components are available for dm365. The components are quite similar between 3.10 and 4.00, except GStreamer and Qt are integrated in the box and the Matrix application launcher is now available for a better Out Of Box experience.

The other major change is audio support in the DVSDK demos.

If you care about these things, the download will be worth it. Otherwise you can continue with 3.10, at least until 4.00 GA which will have more features and bug fixes for dm365.

  • What does it mean "GA release" ?

"Generally Available".  It means production quality.  If you're not using a GA release, you're using something that's not production quality.  We sometimes call these "Early Adopter" (EA) or Engineering releases.  If you're using an EA, you shouldn't ship end products with it... and you should plan to update to a GA release when it becomes available.

EA releases are generally not supported once the GAs are released.  And GAs are supported for "a long time".

  • The current DVSDK 4.00 release is "beta" quality, which has implications on how much testing has been performed on the release and how long the release will be supported.

A "GA" release has received full system test cycles and is production quality and has a longer support life span.
