TDA2EVM5777: Amixer Settings for DRA7xx

Part Number: TDA2EVM5777

Hi,

I am using Jacinto J6 EVM board. I am unable to play audio using aplay command, when i issues aplay command i can just hear a small pop sound. I used the following amixer settings

amixer -c DRA7xxEVM sset PCM 90 # Master Playback volume
amixer -c DRA7xxEVM sset 'Left HP Mixer DACL1' on # HP Left route enable
amixer -c DRA7xxEVM sset 'Right HP Mixer DACR1' on # HP Right route enable
amixer -c DRA7xxEVM sset 'Left Line Mixer DACL1' off # Line out Left disable
amixer -c DRA7xxEVM sset 'Right Line Mixer DACR1' off # Line out Right disable
amixer -c DRA7xxEVM sset 'HP DAC' 90 # Adjust HP volume

aplay music.wav

Is the amixer settings correct? Do we have to chnage any switch setting

If JamR3 board is connected will it affect audio through CPU base board?

  • Hi Ganesh,

    Which SDK you use?

    Regards,
    Yordan
  • Processor SDK
  • Hi Ganesh,

    I have forwarded your question to audio experts.
    Can you just clarify the version of your SDK?

    Regards,
    Yordan
  • Please try the following mixer controls:

    "Left DAC Mux" -> "DAC_L1"
    "Right DAC Mux" -> "DAC_R1"
    "PCM Playback Volume" -> 127

    # Headphone
    "Left HP Mixer DACL1 Switch" -> on
    "Right HP Mixer DACR1 Switch" -> on
    "HP Playback Switch" -> on
    "HP DAC Playback Volume" -> 118

    # Line-Out (if applicable)
    "Left Line Mixer DACL1 Switch" -> on
    "Right Line Mixer DACR1 Switch" -> on
    "Line Playback Switch" -> on
    "Line DAC Playback Volume" -> 118

    The JAMR3 board doesn't affect the CPU board audio. Actually, the two sound cards (DRA7xx-EVM and DRA7XX-JAMR3) can render audio at the same time.

  • Hi Misael,

    I tried the mixer controls you mentioned still only that pop sound is the only thing i can hear no audio.

    amixer sset 'Left DAC Mux',0 'DAC_L1'
    amixer sset 'Right DAC Mux',0 'DAC_R1'
    amixer cset name='PCM Playback Volume' 127

    amixer sset 'Left HP Mixer DACL1' on
    amixer sset 'Right HP Mixer DACR1' on
    amixer cset name='HP Playback Switch' On
    amixer cset name='HP DAC Playback Volume' 118

    amixer sset 'Left Line Mixer DACL1' on
    amixer sset 'Right Line Mixer DACR1' on
    amixer cset name='Line Playback Switch' On
    amixer cset name='Line DAC Playback Volume' 118
  • Hi Yordan,

    SDK Version

    ti-processor-sdk-linux-automotive-dra7xx-evm-03_02_00_03
  • Ganesh,
    Could you confirm what jack you are connecting the headphones on the CPU board? The headphone jack is labeled as "P13" in the CPU board.

    Could you also try using "aplay -Dhw:0,0" or "aplay -Dplughw:0,0" instead? If that still doesn't help, please send the output of "amixer contents".
  • Hi Misael,

    I solved the issue. Actually the problem was something different the MLO in the boot partition was not Processor SDK's it was MLO of Infoadas SDK.
    But after solving the issue it generated some other questions in me.
    Is pin Muxing done in MLO?
    What is the difference in Processor SDK's and Infoadas SDK's MLO?
    Why no sound is produced while using Infoadas SDK MLO?
    What should i do to get sound if am using Infoadas SDK?
    Where can i get the source of MLO?
  • Hi Ganesh,

    I have pinged INFOADAS expert to comment on difference between MLO's.

    Regards,
    Yordan
  • Ganesh,

    Yes, pinmux is done in u-boot. The u-boot source code can be found here. You can refer to the dra7xx evm mux_data.h file for the actual pinmux settings. AFAIK, the source is the same between the regular Processor SDK Linux Automotive and infoADAS, what changes is the defconfig being used for each one (i.e. dra7xx_evm_defconfig OR dra7xx_evm_vision_defconfig).

    My understanding is that the infoADAS related settings are under CONFIG_TARGET_DRA7XX_EVM_VISION. In the infoADAS configuration, the McASP3 pins are configured to a different muxmode.
