DVSDK4.00 tests and rebuilding

I'm using on evm-dm365 the beta DVSDK4.00 and work nice.
The gstreamer integration is a great thing.
I'm not able to encode from evm composite input with gstreamer and also in other way.
I also don't know which are the correct tag to be used for arago in order to rebuild all.
For instance, if PSP 03.01 has to be used, I saw a strange tag for arago-oe-dev.

    DVSDK 4.0 beta is using a bit older gstreamer snapshot and i think there are fixes in later version of trunk about composite output. May be you can checkout latest trunk and build just gstreamer plugin. With DVSDK 4.0, building gstreamer has got more easier, to build just the plugins all you need to do is:

    1)  Checkout the gstreamer plugin source from svn repo on gstreamer.ti.com

    2) Set cross compilation environment variable  - as explained in Software Developers Guide

    3) cd  gstreamer_ti/ti_build/ticodecplugins directory and run "make -f Makefile.external dm365"

    And as per generating the complete DVSDK using arago is concerned, we are working on providing external access to several of DVSDK components and as a part of this we will keep updating recipes in both Arago / OE.

    The news you are going on integrating Arago/OE with DVSDK component is a fantastique goal.
    I could do some tests, if needed.

    The cross-compilation of gstreamer gives this result:

    But I think the right thing is to use Arago to go on also with gstreamer compilation, and I and my colleague, are going on compiling arago master HEAD.
    In order to know where to get some help doing this work, it is better to post here or in arago-devel mailing list?

    I succeded in some captures on dm365-evm with this command:
    gst-launch -v v4l2src always-copy=FALSE input-src=composite ! filesink location=video.raw

    From the table seems something gstreamer related, but the same gstreamer can grab on evm-dm365.

    Looking below, with the old arago_demo_image, the gstreamer application uses 720x480 and works, instead, with dvsdk4.00, the gstreamer application uses 720x576 and the video is black.

    I am working on posting some patches to arago mainling list about the gstreamer patch updates, actually i noticed that arago mainline has some what a older patches for gstreamer and the kernel does not uses the boot alloc patch (which is needed to do mmap from v4l2src). And like i pointed above you should be able to build the gstreamer from gstreamer.ti.com by using REAME.txt from the project page and since you really want to re-create from arago hence you will need to do these for now, i will be working on submitting these patches to arago mainline  as well.

    1) Read the gstreamer tracker 1055. it will provide you kernel patch. Apply these patches on linux-davinci-staging_git kernel or alternatively use http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=linux-davinci.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/video-boot-time-mem-alloc (video-boot-time-mem-alloc) brach. Note that the DVSDK 4.0 provided kernel has this patch already applied on top of r37 release.

    2) Apply the plugins good patch from https://gstreamer.ti.com/gf/project/gstreamer_ti/scmsvn/?action=browse&path=%2Ftrunk%2Fgstreamer_ti%2Fopensource_build%2Fpatchfiles%2Fgst-plugins-good-0.10.16%2F 

    This will ensure that you all the right meats for building complete gstreamer inside the arago.

  • The problem has been generated by the lack of information in reproducing the DVSDK from sources.

    I mean, reading http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/dvsdk/DVSDK_3_10/latest/index_FDS.htm,

    I assumed that the correct PSP to reproduce linux kernel was the DaVinci PSP 03.01 GA Release (Build r37).

    In its info the kernel tag and branch is http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=linux-davinci.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/r37 .

    So, no problem, mine is only a feedback.

    Now I'll try to rebase my code on video-boot-time-mem-alloc branch, but the question is what is the preferred branch for dm365.

    I see also that your master branch doesn't include those patches, as described below.

    DEV.DaVinciPSP.03.XX.00.37 is a 2.6.32-rc1 patched, right, instead the master is based on 2.6.32.
