TMS320C6657: PCIe Serial Interface

Part Number: TMS320C6657
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDXEVMPCI

Hello,

I am planning on purchasing the TMDXEVMPCI support board to connect with the PCIe peripheral on a C6657 EVM Board (TMDSEVM6657L). I had a question about the PCIe output from the TMDXEVMPCI support board.

The TMDXEVMPCI board has a 4 lane PCIe connection and when I look at the circuit diagram I see that each Rx and Tx lane actually has two wires.

ex: PCIe_TX0P and PCIe_TX0N        OR       PCIe_RX0P and PCIe_RX0N

From the reading that I have done on PCIe in the user manuals, I thought that PCIe was a serial communication interface. So, why would this connection have two output lines for 1 Tx output signal? Am I interpreting the circuit diagram wrong? Are these differential lines? This is important for my application because I desire a single wire output from a communication peripheral to turn a transistor on or off.

If my wording needs any clarification or this post belongs in a different forum, please let me know. Also, the link to the TMDXEVMPCI board is: www.einfochips.com/.../

Thank you,

Joseph
