Linux/DRA725: system start-up time problem

Part Number: DRA725
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA72

Tool/software: Linux

Hi,

sdk: 03_02_00_03

uboot version: 2016.05

kernel version: 4.4.67

1.It started that boot the kernel after about 6  seconds;

stop here about 6s;

it's run go on after about 6  seconds;

why stop here a little while?

2.as follows,Why does it have about 1s time interval, i find other prink are consistent.

Best Regards,

Caser.

  • Hi Caser,

    I have forwarded your question to kernel experts.

    Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Yordan,
    Do you have any message?

    Regards,
    Cesar.
  • Cesar
    Is this with the unmodified SDK version and on the TI EVM
    If not can you call out the differences
    can you also attach a full bootup log - starting with uboot loading and the kernel startup sequence
  • Hi Srirama,

    I use the dra74x evm board;

    it run to 'start kernel. . .' ,it stop until 6 seconds later.

    the system log:

  • Hi Caser,
    My comments for your problem :
    1) Stuck for 6 seconds at "Starting kernel"
    Have a look at this link e2e.ti.com/.../347095
    This will give you idea of what's happening.

    2) 1 Second delay in UART
    Can you please enable only the UART port needed for you? I can see 10 UART ports being enabled while its booting.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks,
    Prabhuraj

  • Hi, Prabhuraj

    1. I close other uart ports ,only uart port 1,but it still delay 1s.

    2. about the problem that Stuck at "Starting Kernel"

        i affirm that match between device tree blob and the actual hardware.

        the stuck maybe extract zImage firmware?

        how to solve.

    Regards,

    Cesar.

  • Hi Cesar,

    Thanks for trying out the experiments. Assuming that 6 second delay is not observed in the default SDK and 74x EVM board, and is only getting reproduced at your side,

    1) "Starting kernel" is the last message printed by u-boot. After this the control is passed to kernel image by reading it from the storage.
    If you observe delay here, it could be due to any of these.
    a) Any changes made by you in the kernel configs
    b) Modifications in the boot args
    c) Delay in the UART debug message printing through serial terminal.

    2) Regarding 1 second delay in UART driver loading :
    I can see that UART 8250/16550 is getting loaded which is a move away from standard omap-serial driver. Some one from TI can give better answer for this. I do not have 74x board, so I cant test it here.

    thanks,
    prabhuraj

  • Hi prabhuraj,

    I test both have this delay problem  dra72 board and dra74board;

    it's complicated,please help me.

    thanks,

    Cesar

  • Hi Caser,

    Can you try with adding "loglevel=0" and "quiet" to bootargs and see if it makes any difference?

    Setting loglevel=0 should definitely help with the console delay, as the delay is due to flushing of pre-console init messages.

    Regards,
    RK
