TMS320C5534: ROM memory - protection, modification / + Lowering max clocking speed

Hello,

can you please help with a couple simple questions:

  1. What is the level of protection of customers intellectual property inside of the ROM memory? Is customer able to modify ROM contents themselves?
  2. To what level can customer lower the clocking speed?
  3. Is the bootloader and DFU software available for free?

    Hi Bortosz

    On 1) There is no security support on these devices , so will not be suitable for customer IP protection. ROM is not modifiable by customers. There is also no support for supporting Custom ROM
    On 2) We see customers running 32 MHz all the time , how low are you planning to run?
    On 3) The software support for ROM and boot loader is what we as part of the CSL (www.ti.com/.../SPRC133) and www.ti.com/.../sprabl7c.pdf . These are free. No explicit DFU package per say.

    Note you will see the boot loader doc mention encrypted and unencrypted image support, but for all practical purposes the encrypted boot has limited support and not necessarily recommended for new design with security in mind.

    Hi Bortosz,

    On 2) the PLL range for C5534 can be between 32Khz to 120Mhz.

    On 3) the bootloader source code is not available right now, but if you need example of secondry bootloading support, we have example code for SPI flash boot implementation available in source code. As of the DFU (assuming USB DFU class) support, current bootloader does support boot from USB via Bulk, not the USB DFU though.
