Linux/AM5728: Dsptop fails

Part Number: AM5728
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3104

Tool/software: Linux

Hi,

I am trying to run PSDK 4.00.00.00 Linux image (http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/AM57X/latest/exports/am57xx-evm-linux-04.00.00.04.img.zip ) on AM5728EVM.

When I try running dsptop on the target, I get the following error

dsptop internal error: Fatal: : Can not open debugss module device_name sysfs entry for reading

This is even after insmod of /lib/modules/4.9.28-geed43d1050/extra/debugss_kmodule.ko on the target. Can you please help?

Please note we are able to run opencl examples with dsp acceleration enabled successfully.

dmesg logs for the target is attached

  • Hi Ridhim,

    I just tested this with my AM572x IDK, running latest TISDK (kernel 4.9.28) and dsptop works fine.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Yordan,

    Thanks for your response.

    I am using AM5728 EVM with the latest PSDK (4.00.00.00) and the kernel version is 4.9.28.

    I have attached the boot logs for your reference. Can you please let me know what could be the problem?

    Regards,

    Ridhim

  • Sure, I'll have a look and update.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • How are you booting your board? Can you create a new SD Card containing the prebuilt images & filesystem from the latest TISDK (ti-processor-sdk-linux-am57xx-evm-04.00.00.04) and try the dsptop command?

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hello Yordan,

    Sorry for the delayed response. As per your suggestion I created a new SD card on windows using the image found here:
    software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

    I am still getting the same error when trying to run dsptop.

    Best Regards,
    Ridhim
  • Hello Yordan,

    Just a reminder to let you know that we are still waiting for the response.
    Thank you

    Best Regards,
    Ridhim
  • Hi Ridhim,

    I tested again on AM572x EVM as well. Here is the result:

    This is when I am running the Vector Application from the TI SDK.

    Do you have any modifications on the EVM and therefore the linux kernel? Can you tried with a kernel image that you've build yourself, using the tisdk_am57xx-evm_defconfig?

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi,

    Is this issue still present?
    Could you leaborate on the questions bellow?

    Also have you done any modifications to the root fs?

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi,I have the same question also,i havenot change anything   on rootfs,“”dsptop internal error: Fatal: : Can not open debugss module device_name sysfs entry for reading“” , is there any suggetsions?

  • Have yo tried migrating to latest TISDK 04.01.00.06?

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • yeah, i got the latest sdk, can you give some debug suggestions ?

  • yeah,i got the latest sdk , can you give some debug suggetstions ?
  • Ok, I managed to reproduce the problem with the latest SDK. For some reason the debugss was removed.
    Add the following in arhc/arm/boot/dts/am57xx-beagle-x15-common.dtsi:
    sound0_master: simple-audio-card,codec {
    sound-dai = <&tlv320aic3104>;
    clocks = <&clkout2_clk>;
    };
    };
    + debugss: debugss {
    + compatible = "ti,dra7xx-debugss";
    + clocks = <&sys_clkin1>;
    + clock-names = "sysclockin1";
    + };
    };

  •  Ok, thanks,can i make it by replacing zImage-am57xx-evm.bin and  am57xx-evm-reva3.dtb ? i tried this method , but i got the same error ?

  • Here is the output of ls /boot on my AM572x EVM running latest TI SDK:

    I've added the above changes in arch/arm/boot/dts/am57xx-beagle-x15-common.dtsi and compiled the kernel. Then copied the newly built am57xx-evm.dtb on bootable sd card using the following command:
    sudo cp <path_to_linux_kernel>/arch/arm/boot/dts/am57xx-evm.dtb /media/ykovachev/rootfs/boot/devicetree-uImage-am57xx-evm.dtb

    And that was it. I didn't need to change the kernel image.

  • ok,i will try the sd card mode , i used the tftp boot mode using  zImage-am57xx-evm.bin and dtb  am57xx-evm-reva3.dtb .

  • At last , it works . I cp rename arch/arm/boot/dts/am57xx-evm.dtb to my tftpboot am57xx-evm-reva3.dtb
