Hi
Is it correct that there are two versions of Linux available for the Davince processors?
A- Montavista
B- open source Linus (ubuntu?)
And where does GStreamer fits in?
thanks.

Which DaVinci Device (DM6446, DM355, DM6437, DM6467, DM365...) are you working with?
In most cases, you should have a combination of the following: 1) demo montavista version, 2) professional montavista version and 3) GIT open source kernel.
The idea is to have a free version of kernel (option 1 or 3 above) and a professional distro (option 2) above for our customers to have access to. Based on customer feedback, we are moving from option 1 to option 3 on all our new products as well as slowly migrating out legacy products to option 3 for the free kernel. Hence you should always have a free version of the kernel available for our devices; during this transitionary period, you may have both option 1 and 3 available for some devices.
I am not sure if Ubuntu is a good fit in the embedded space; it is likely a better host Linux OS for your host PC than a target embdded OS. The three options above are from a target Linux Kernel perspective.
