Linux/AM3358: ECC support for Arago

Hello,

I am using an AM3358 and DDR3 with Arago via Sitara and am wondering about ECC support with the Linux OS? Is it supported? If so, does it have to be enabled somehow? What happens to errors reported by the ECC? Any gotchas I should be concerned with?

Hi,

ECC is not supported on the DDR interface for AM335x devices.

So I take this to mean that the EMIF bus is not capable of ECC, but GPMC is? Will Linux run with ECC SRAM on the GPMC?

The GPMC ELM module only works with NAND memories.

I am a little confused by your last statement, I was reading up on the AM3555x data sheet and I noticed that :

First page summary---
– General-Purpose Memory Controller (GPMC)
-Flexible 8-Bit and 16-Bit Asynchronous Memory Interface with up to Seven Chip – Selects (NAND, NOR, Muxed-NOR, SRAM)
- Uses Hamming Code to Support 1-Bit ECC

Does this mean something other than DDR SRAM is supported by GPMC?

The GPMC is a flexible interface which supports NOR, NAND, SRAM... I don't understand what you mean by "DDR SRAM". Only static memories are supported on the GPMC. Furthermore, the Error Location Module (ELM) in the GPMC subsystem only works with NAND memories.

Hi Biser,

thank you for the clarification that the AM3358 does not support and handle ECC RAM.

Do you know of another Sitara processor that does?
