JPEG and DM6446 ?

Hi everybody.

I am using DVSDK 2.00. I also installed JPEG encoder (production version - 2.00.01.00) into my "dm6446_dvsdk_combos_2_05" located in my DVSDK 2.00 installation directory. I succesfully reconfigured combos and rebuilt it.

But I can't find any ARM-side samples of usage JPEG encoding. I have this direcotry:

"dm6446_dvsdk_combos_2_05/packages/ti/sdo/codecs/jpegenc/app/Client"

And content of this directory make me believe that it is possible to build example application of usage JPEG encoding. I didn't find any *.pdf's or wiki articles or TI Community posts by this question. How can I get a sample application of usage combos JPEG encoding?

Or does exist another way (not dvsdk combos) to implement converting from YUV to JPEG?

Hi Roman,

Afaik, you wont find any ARM-side samples for JPEG encoding codes for DM6446, because ARM core is generally used for capturing information/ data from peripheral interfaces and DSP core is used to perform signal processing operations (eg. JPEG encoding) on them. The 2 cores have a shared memory between them to enable each core to access the data.

You may have to refer the DSP operation guide or its equivalent for DM6446.

Yes, you right.

I mean that I have DSP-side server which implements encoding but I don't have ARM-side application which will use this DSP-side server. Do you know what I mean? I need to use DSP-servers (for converting to jpeg) from ARM side.

I understand you partly.

What do you mean that you dont have ARM-side application? Arent you capturing the data you want to use for JPEG encoding from somewhere? Are you defining the data directly from DSP side server?

Afaik, ARM core and DSP core cannot run parallely. For running DSP core, the ARM core needs to be in reset. When data is captured via ARM and put into shared memory, ARM core goes into reset and DSP core is enabled and it starts its operation. Once done, DSP core goes into reset and ARM sends the processed data to output peripherals.

I have ARM MontaVista Linux. I capture frames in YUV format. Now, I want to convert it to JPEG using DSP. How can I do it?

1) I succesfully built DSP codec server which implements JPEG and other conversions.

2) Now I have to use this DSP server. And if I understand everything right then I can use it from ARM-side via Codec Engine or DMAI interface. I just can not find this ARM-side application which will use DSP codec server.

Thats usefull. But maybe simplest way to convert from YUV to JPEG exists?
