Do you have an OMAP3530 EVM Rev G?   The switch SW4 on the main board is defined

as follows.  A switch in the ON position results in a logic zero on the SYS_BOOT signal line:

SW4 Pos           Signal                             Boot MMC1 then UART3                Boot NAND then UART3

    1                          SYS_BOOT0                0 = ON                                                1 = OFF

    2                          SYS_BOOT1                0 = ON                                                0 = ON

    3                         SYS_BOOT2                 0 = ON                                                1 = OFF

    4                         SYS_BOOT3                 1 = OFF                                              0 = ON

    5                         SYS_BOOT4                 1 = OFF                                              1 = OFF

    6                         SYS_BOOT5                 0 = ON                                                0 = ON

In some of our documentation we say set SW4 = 10 0111 for MMC1 boot where 1 means switch is in ON position

even though the actual SYS_BOOT signal is logic 0, so there may be some confusion there.

OMAP3530 Tech ref manual Table 25-3 has booting sequence based on SYS_BOOT signals.  Which configuration

    are you trying to use?

    Gang,

When the board boots without an SD card, it is probably booting from Flash memory. As suggested by Mike, please make sure your switch settings are set to boot from MMC first.
