Linux/PROCESSOR-SDK-AM437X: SDK fails to install

I have copied ti-processor-sdk-linux-am437x-evm-01.00.03-Linux-x86-install.bin from the "Start Here" directory on the Micro SD card that comes with the EVM module. On 2 Ubuntu 14.? laptops and 1 Debian 9 laptops when I execute this file it just come back with the prompt, not error message. I also tried it with sudo, same results. If I execute it on a Debian 8.9 version, it installs the SDK properly. All machines and OS's are 64 bit. Has anyone seen this before and what is the fix? Thanks Ed

Try downloading the SDK from here: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

Just tried it, same results, don't see anything in the logs, not even the initial messages for the installs come up in any of the laptops, everything runs fine in the debian desktop version. I'm thinking I'm missing a package or two in the laptop, I'm going to compare the installed packages and see if I can find it. Any other thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Ed

This bin file should be installed successful on Ubuntu 14 64-bit machine. Refer to the below wiki pages for details:

I take it you didn't read the description of the problem !! I already took the SDK from those 2 places, It will not execute on 2 laptops running UBUNTU and a laptop running Debian. I just returns with a prompt. Both will however execute and install on the desktop running Debian. I assume I am missing a package that the install program needs to do anything. What is that package(s)? All of the other ARM manufacturers I have worked with are actually able to answer the question. Not very impressive :-(

The bin file is tested and validated under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit, make sure you have the same Ubuntu 14 Linux distribution. You can get the version of your Ubuntu machine running the "uname -a" command in terminal. See for example what I have on my machine:

pbotev@lin-0306:~$ uname -a
Linux lin-0306 4.4.0-98-generic #121~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 11 11:54:55 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I just tried and successfully install ti-processor-sdk-linux-am437x-evm-04.01.00.06-Linux-x86-Install.bin file on mine Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. Seems like your error is specific for you only, as I have not seen anyone else to have that problem.

The bin file should be given execute permissions with chmod, make sure you are align with this.

Regarding Ubuntu 14 packages, there are no specific packages for installing the latest AM437x PSDK v4.01 bin file (64-bit SDK). We have specific package requirements only when building the PSDK with yocto:

processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Processor_SDK_Building_The_SDK

And we have specific package requirements when installing old SDK (32-bit) to Ubuntu 14 64-bit machine:

processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Sitara_Linux_SDK_64_Bit_Ubuntu_Support
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Sitara_Linux_Training:_Linux_Host_Configuration

The libraries I installed were as follows:
apt-get install gcc-multilib

It ran after that.

Thanks for sharing your solution, it might help other community member that has the same Ubuntu configuration as you.

I just want to note that I do NOT have gcc-multilib package installed on my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit machine, and I am able to instal the PSDK bin file successful.

gcc-multilib is useful for cross-compiling, that is, compiling a program to run on a different processor architecture. For example, you would need gcc-multilib if you are running on 64-bit Ubuntu and want to compile a program to run on 32-bit Ubuntu or on ARM.

You need also gcc-multilib for building Android file system, building ARM baremetal GCC toolchain, building Yocto. But for installing the 64-bit PSDK bin file, gcc-multilib package is not needed, at least for me.
