AM5728: Android HAL layer for echo cancellation

Customer is running into a snag utilizing the built-in echo cancelling features of android. We are getting an error saying that the hardware is not able to support the echo canceller even though AM5728 has a built in DSP.

Is there a HAL layer required to enable this? Customer was unable to find anything in the android release for the beagleboard dev kit. Is there any plans for it?

Customer looked through the e2e site and couldn’t find any information, there is a list of outside partners that specialize in echo cancellation however these appear to be custom echo cancellation software which customer really does not need so long as customer has the HAL layer for android.

I've asked the development team for clarification on this feature and will let you know what they come back with.

Do you know which version of the Android Processor SDK they are using and with EVM this is on?

The original dev kit was running android 5.x, we got errors saying that android did not have the hardware resources required to use the echo canceler. We are now using a custom AM57x platform paired with a TLV320AIC3007 CODEC running Android 7.1.1 and getting the same errors.

Sorry for the delay, I was away from my desk for a couple weeks.

My assumption was that you were asking about this class: developer.android.com/.../AcousticEchoCanceler.html, correct?

After speaking to the development team it appears that our Android release does not currently support AEC. It appears that there is some development effort involved to support AEC on the DSP and to my knowledge this effort is not on our roadmap at this time. I will update here if that changes.

As a side note, the current Processor SDK Android (www.ti.com/.../PROCESSOR-SDK-AM57X) that is supported on this forum is still on the Marshmallow pastry. The release scheduled for the beginning of next year is slated to move to the Oreo pastry.
