Linux/AM5728: External PCIe RAID controller

Dear all,

I would like to know the feasibility of having a system based on AM5728 with several drives managed by an external RAID controller.

How difficult would be to talk to the PCIe RAID card and configure it when connected to this embeded environment?

Is there a way to port the Linux drivers that the manufacturers supply in order to make it work in an AM5728?

Hi, Jorge,

You will need to have the linux driver code merged to the TI ProcSDK kernel directory. Depending on the kernel version the driver code is based on, there may be some API differences which you may need to resolve. Having the driver enabled in menuconfig, it should work.

Just FYI. The AM5728 supports SATA HD, and has SATA connector on the LCD board. I am not sure if the SATA errata apply to RAID. There is Gen3 speed negotiation issue which you may want to take a look in the errata.

Since we plan to connect a RAID card over PCIe instead of SATA, I think that errata does not apply, so that I can have a 500MB BW channel between the AM5728 and the external RAID controller over a single PCIe lane. Am I right?

Yes, over PCIe should be fine.
