OMAP-L137 Datasheet "Power-On Hours"

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L137

Hello,

I'm posting this for one of my customers.

The new revision D of the OMAP-L137 datasheet SPRS563 has numerous updates from revision C.
One peculiar addition is section 5.3: "..Recommended Power-On Hours"

I can't recall seeing something like this in any spec. up to now.  What is the significance of it?

Can I assume that if running below the maximum rated speed and well within the operating temperature range that I can expect a significantly longer operating lifetime?

Since our application of this processor may be in a system that is powered 24 hours a day, even 100k hours of "power on time" comes to 11 years and 5 months.  Sounds like a long time, but our product lifespan could be 20-30 years.

Thanks for helping to clarify this requirement/specification.

  • Tom,

That comment is meant to show that the life expectancy of the device decreases as the operating temperature and frequency increases.  As a rule of thumb, you can assume that operating below the max temperature/frequency rating for the device will increase the life expectancy.  If your customer has a very strict requirement for POH, you may want to contact your local TI sales office for further clarification of expectations.
