AM3351: I2C interface to USB hub

Part Number: AM3351

We have interfaced I2C lines of AM3351 to SMbus lines of USB hub –USB2517. As per our understanding, the I2C protocol and SMbus protocol is exactly same at 100KhZ frequency and we think it should work.  Do you concur with it?
