IPIPE overhead

In the datasheet, the following line describes the column/row overhead of the IPIPE:

"Filtering processes in IPIPE creates overhead pixels at each side (left/right/top/bottom)."

It is unclear to me whether these overhead columns/rows are stripped from the input image as it travels through the IPIPE, or whether they make it through the IPIPE where the resizer or software must trim them off.

My tests seem to indicate that the columns/rows are not stripped from the input image. Does anyone else have insight they share?

Thanks.

  • The IPIPE output image shall have the same size as the input image, if no trimming is done purposely.

In that case, the border pixels are affected by the filtering process as explained in the document.

If you want the border pixels of the output image to be free from any of the border effects, you may take in a slightly bigger image into IPIPE.

Then, you may (a) trim it at the end of IPIPE or (b) output a slightly bigger image and let the encoder (or other following processing) ignore the border pixels.
