TMS320C6655: Emulation of SPI using McBSP

Hello TI,

We are looking for TI assistance to help resolve a serial port interface issue we have using TMS320C6655 McBSP port interface to SPI port of ADS8330.  We have utilized, and dedicated the SPI interface on C6655 for servicing another critical application module.  So we were left with using one of the two McBSP ports on the C6655.  TI document “spruhh0.pdf”: KeyStone  Architecture Multichannel Buffered Serial Port (McBSP) for C6655 indicates that the McBSP port for this device does not officially support the SPI protocol (Section 2.10 page 62 (2-46)) .  We have tried to emulate SPI interface to ADS8330 using a continuous Non-Stop Clock, and using enable/disable sample rate generate FS (frame sync) for Tx/Rx cycles.  Our scheme works most of the time on a number circuit packs, but however, we do have some failures we need to eradicate.  We can provide further information on the McBSP-SPI emulation software in our design if you aware of any such solution(s).

    Field is in touch with us on this. We are discussing this internally, but most likely we will not have any positive answer on this.
    The documentation clearly states that the SPI model for McBSP is not supported for this device family (this is actually consistent with several other devices that support McBSP and came around the same time or after this device).

    The SPI mode was officially descoped and there fore not tested as part of silicon validation for these devices , so while it may work, it will have no official support from TI. Additionally and more importantly from my perspective, there is no datasheet timings for this mode , so I do not see any easy way for a customer to go to production without the documentation and datasheet support for this mode.
