Linux/AM5718: USB1 Device mode

Hi TI,

In AM5718: As per doc, Processor port USB1 is implemented only as a USB host (master), Can it possible to make it as device(client mode), if Yes what are the changes required to do, If No can you please tell why not.

With USB2 am able to do it, but i am interested in reason behind USB1 fail.

Hi Biser,

Thanks for quick reply.
1) In sprui97a.pdf : In section 7.1--> Processor USB Port 1.
2) In am5716_trm.pdf : it mentioned as the controller support dual role.

For me when i configure USB1 as device mode it is not happening, but for other USB2 controller i am able to do it.
Please suggest what i am missing.

sprui97a.pdf is the AM571x IDK EVM hardware user guide. On the IDK board USB1 is a Host port and it's not possible to configure it in Device mode.

Hi Biser,

As you said, On the IDK board USB1 is a Host port and it's not possible to configure it in Device mode.
For my understanding, can you please let me know bit details, why it is not possible.
and Can USB1_DRVVBUS is controlled from the linux driver.

USB1 on the AM571x IDK implements a USB Type-A receptacle. This is a Host-only connector. The USB2 port on the AM571x IDK implements a USB Micro-AB receptacle which can be used in either Host or Device mode.

Device mode operation of USB1 on the AM571x IDK is not supported, however the AM571x processor itself can support Dedicated Host, Dedicated Device, or Dual-Role (Host/Device) on all USB ports.
