Hello,

We plan to use am35x in a new design.

From following the docuemntation in TI's web page I see that there are 2 alternatives:

1. using yocto/OE build

2. using SDK supplied for each board:

Is there any recommendation about these 2 alternatives , I mean which one is preferred ?

Hi,

This is entirely the developer's choice. TI offers both alternatives, and they are both supported here on this forum.

I understand.
I believe that the yocto/OE alternative will result in a newer kernel version , Right ? This sound like a good advantage.

Yet, I don't find the kernel version in TI's wiki, is it specified?

You should be careful with Yocto regarding the kernel version. We support only kernels that have been officially released in the Processor SDK package. You will find the latest version on the SDK download page: www.ti.com/.../PROCESSOR-SDK-AM57X

You can check kernel versions from the SDK (For instance SDK 04.02.00.09 uses 4.9.59 with patches). you could clone the archive, create a tag or branch and have your own recipe point at this revision of the kernel. Then you are at the same level.
