TMS320C6748: Streaming video to play in VLC

Part Number: TMS320C6748
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAPL138, DM3730

We want to stream video from DSP TMS320C6748 series to VLC player in PC. The video is received in DSP as RAW data in video port .

What is the recommended way to encode and sent the RAW data through Ethernet.

If H.264 encoding S/W done in TMS320 family will it overload the core/ We don't want the overload the DSP for doing encoding as it has to do some other image processing as well.

Is there alternate processor with th same pin compatibility if it is not achievable by single core  TMS320C678, What is the best way to design hardware and software for the above.

We are not particular about doing H.264 encoding , Streaming video to VLC is only the requirement.

  • I've notified the sw team. Please share which RTOS SDK version are you using?

  • Fahad,

DSP optimized version of H.264 was previously supported on OMAPL138 device (ARM+C6748), using DVSDK software and LogicPD EVM. This provided several multi-media features which we no longer support on this particular device. This was also offered on other mutlimedia processor like DM3730 and DM365. The functionality was leveraged from ARM linux using gStreamer and codec engine framework which we previously used for running audio and video codecs.

If you want this functionality in your product, you can look at TI third party network to see any of them offer these multi-media features on any of the TI devices.
