TDA2EG: Vision SDK Usecases FPD-Link Output Issue

Part Number: TDA2EG
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA2E, DS90UH925Q

Hi

    My question is "how to use the FPD-Link to output video in the Vision SDK usecases"?

    According to the page 16 of "TDA2Ex EVM CPU Board User's Guide.pdf", there are 3 ways to output video: HDMI, LCD and FPD-Link.

    But according to page 14 of "VisionSDK_UserGuide_TDA2Ex.pdf" , the use-cases is the Vision SDK support only two display devices:

LCD 800x480
HDMI 1080p60 (default)

     And, from the "vision_sdk\apps\src\rtos\usecases\common\chains_common.c":

Int32 ChainsCommon_StartDisplayDevice(UInt32 displayType)
{

if (displayType == CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_LCD_7_INCH

displayType == CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_LCD_10_INCH

displayType == CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_LDC_10_INCH_LCDCTRL_TC358778_MIPI_DSI_1920_1200
)

{....}

if(displayType == CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_HDMI_720P

displayType == CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_HDMI_1080P

displayType == CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_HDMI_XGA_TDM

displayType == CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_HDMI_WXGA
)

{...}

}

    We can see that there is no action for "CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_SDTV_NTSC" and "CHAINS_DISPLAY_TYPE_SDTV_NTSC". ( "SDTV" =  "FPD-Link"??? )

     I have a custom board with no HDMI and LCD interface based on TDA2E soc, so the FPD-LINK is the only way to output. Please tell me how to use the FPD-LINK in the usecases, thank you ~

Thanks

xuanbo

  • Anybody help me? Please~~
  • Hi,

    VSDK does not support output over FPD Link. It supports output on HDMI and LCD and SD-DAC output..
    For FPD link, you need to have external device to convert LCD output to LVDS signal.. Currently it is not supported in VSDK..

    Brijesh
  • Hi Brijesh

    Thank you for your reply~
    I'm sorry to hear that VSDK does not support the FPD link...
    But since there is a FPD-LINK output port in the TDA2Ex EVM, there should be some docs or demos about how to use this output interface? Such as how to control the DS90UH925Q by TDA2Ex ?
    Because the FPD-LINK is the only output interface of my custom board, so i have to merge this display way to the VSDK manully...Do you have any good suggestions if i want to do this?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    VSDK supports FPD Link, but not on the output side, the reason for this, there is no LCD/board to capture this signals and display it. We have LCD and HDMI output on EVM, so they are supported and tested out..

    Having said that, there is some example code in the PDK display example to send output over UB925.. But how will you capture it? Do you have UB926 based display device?

    Regards,
    Brijesh
  • Hi Brijesh

    Now, i understand the reason why VSDK does not support the FPD LINK output. Are the examples that send output over UB925 at "pdk_01_08_00_16\packages\ti\drv\vps\examples\dss\displayDss\src"?

    I am so sorry that i have made a mistake in my question. My custom board's serializer is the Max9275, not the UB925. And we have a LCD panel which can display the signal output from Max9275. So we want to know how the VSDK uses the UB925, then we can port it to Max9275. But as you said that VSDK does not support the FPD LINK(UB925) output now.

    By the way, i have another question that does the VSDK or PDK has any methods to save the image data as a JPEG or PNG file at the SD card, as the display is not easy to work fro me now?

    Thanks
    xuanbo
  • Hi,

    Yes, you could find the display example code in pdk_01_08_00_16\packages\ti\drv\vps\examples\dss\displayDss\src

    Well you could either use VSDK or PDK example, to bringup first this SERDES combination..

    Both of them supports images in RAW formats, not in encoded formats. For example, if you configure display to output YUV420 format, you need to provide the image in YUV420 format to the display driver. You could store this image into SD Card.. I think there are some sample images in the PDK..

    I would suggest first use PDK to bringup this SERDES, then similar code could be easily ported to the VSDK..

    Brijesh
  • Hi Brijesh

    Thank you for your good suggestion~
    Could you tell me that where the PDK sample codes that store the image data to SD card is ? Then i can quickly find it and start to study how to use it, thank you ~

    Thanks
    xuanbo
  • Hi,

    You could find the sample PDK YUV images under folder packages\ti\drv\vps\docs\test_inputs in ti_components/drivers/pdk directory.

  • Hi Brijesh

    The path you gave is the input images?
    I am sorry that what i want is the method or API to store the data come from camera to a JPEG or PNG file on the SD card, not the images files. If my board has the HDMI interface, then i can display the image data from camera directly. But now, i do not have the HDMI and LCD interface on my custom board, so i want to store the image data from camera as a JPEG or PNG file, which means at least the capture part is worked. So I need the sample code to do this storage job.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    I think there are some VSDK usecase, which you could use to capture + encode and store the encoded output into a file.. But you will require tool to view this encoded images.

    What exactly you want to do here? Do you just want to verify if capture is working fine? Then there is no need to encode captured image.
    You could just dump one of the captured image into a file and view it offline using some yuv viewer.

    Regards,
    Brijesh
  • Hi

    yes, i just want to verify whether capture is working fine firstly, as you see that my display based on serializer output may be not work soon.
    Thank you for your suggestion very much. I will try to dump the captured image.

    Thanks
    xuanbo
  • ok, if you are using iss-capture link, it has control command to dump a frame.
    if you are using vip-capture link, then you need to put breakpoint in the processData API and get the buffer address from the Fvid2_Frame and then dump the frame from the CCS memory window..

    Rgds,
    Brijesh
  • Hi Brijesh

    Thank you for your suggestion. I will try the method you suggested.

    Thanks

  • Hi xuanbo,

    Hopefully this issue is resolved and can we close the thread in this case?
