AM3703: PMIC issue

Hi,

The processor we used in original design is AM3703CBP100 and PMIC TPS65950A2ZXN.

The frequency we set to the system is 1Ghz. The operating system is Linux.

We noticed the our design is not stable. The issue was sometimes some our systems stuck with "Kernel panic" log.

Then we checked our design again and founded PMIC TPS65950A2ZXN can't work with 1Ghz.

To validate this we reduce the frequency to 800Mhz and stuck issue solved.

We asked TI for 20 samples of PMIC TPS65950A3ZXN that intended to work with 1Ghz and apply on 2 systems.

Unfortunately the stuck issue not solved with new PMIC TPS65950A3ZXN using 1Ghz.

Please advise!

Hi Hen,

Let me understand, did you use the AM3703 @ 800MHz for some time and then upgraded to the 1GHz version later? Is the kernel panic random? What temperatures does it occur? Do you have low pass filters on the analog power rails for the PLLs? How many layers is the board?

My first guess is the decoupling capacitors on the board might be insufficient for the higher frequency. Have you reviewed the latest processor datasheet for the decoupling capacitor and board design recommendations? And does your board design meet the requirements from this app note?

If possible, you can increase the MPU voltage about 50mV to 75mV to see if stability improves.
