AM3352: Minimal BOM

Part Number: AM3352
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5718,

Hello,
customer  is interesting in AM3352 am AM5718. He ask for a minimal BOM (PMIC, passive elements, ...) to judge the complete system costs. Do you have such a BOM?

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

As far as I know we have only BOMs associated with EVM boards and reference designs. I have asked the factory team to comment too. They will respond here.
  • it also would help if you take the BOM (or schematic) of the EVM and would mark the needed components.

    Thx, Regards Holger
  • Holger,
There are at least 4 PMICs that could be used with AM335x depending on customer use case. Besides the EVMs available, I recommend reading our documentation that will help customer understand what is needed for each MPU, as well as reading the Schematic Check List (you will find the current link on the product folder, under Technical Documents tab, section Application Notes).
  • Rogerio,
it is not acceptable that we force customer to search this information on his own. May be we could lose the business.

    Regards, Holger

As you might be very well aware, SoC is one of the component of an end system meeting a set of desired functions. The basic minimum requirements of any processor are power supply, clocks and Reset. Again, the complexity of the power attach, clocks and reset vary greatly based on system needs and requirements. For instance, on AM335x if you desire to run at over-drive conditions i.e. higher OPP's than OPP nominal, it is required to separate VDD_MPU and VDD_CORE. Depending on the peripheral interfaces you have in the system, you might need 1.8V or 3.3V or both. If you chose to have a DDR, you might need a separate supply if the DDR type is DDR3 or DDR3L. The passives scale accordingly.

In short, it is impractical for our EVM or board designs to highlight all the creative possibilities customers are able to accomplish using our processors. Where necessary, you can also leverage the TI design library that are made available.

For addressing the issue that you posted here:
    - Be specific on what system building blocks are required here?
    - When you mention BOM, are you looking at optimizing power solution or also looking at other peripherals such as memory, connectivity etc.
    - Do you have a proposal you want to review?

The best approach for the above is to enable a conversation directly with the factory. I'll also reach out to you separately to discuss this further.

    Regards, Siva
