Hello Ankur,
AM437x only supports two external ports, so I'm curious on what you are trying to accomplish by "daisy chaining" them together. Could you explain your desired topology?

Hi DK,

We are not very sure on our customer application and we believe that they have some other PCBs where they have some Ethernet ports, so this is not limited to 2 ports. So this daisy chain topology will be used with the intention of reducing cabling and installation costs.

However, our question is not exactly on the advantages of daisy chaining, but whether it is possible with AM437x and any other chips that we need to use (For e.g: Ethernet switch, buffer ICs etc).....?

I'd need to understand the topology before I could comment on the feasibility of same. The term "daisy chain" means different things to different people.

Attached a whitepaper on this for any reference.

Currently we are using AM4377's internal Dual port Ethernet switch. For daisy chain, whether we can use the same or do we need it externally (or any other hardware component) ?

Hi Madhusoodana,

You will need PHY's for each port but if I understand the topology correctly that should be all you need externally.

The daisy chain can be done in switch mode or dual port MAC mode. Switch mode would be easiest and least impactful ARM processing wise but not capable of redundancy if the path is broken such as cables being cut. The white paper you are referencing will require ARM processing for the RTSP protocol mentioned and using dual MAC mode for the CPSW ports. The are other protocols to consider too depending on your network needs for your application, you might want to consider researching the HSR/PRP for the ring topology desribed.
