AM5728: Android crashes while HMDI is connected

Part Number: AM5728

I am using latest Android SDK version 4.02 boot from eMMC. I notice that when HDMI is connected, the system feels unstable and tend to crash after very short amount of time (less than 10 minutes) with and without doing anything. 

Please instruct me on how to collect debug logs for this if you guys need it.

    Hello Xiang,

    1) Which board are you using?
    2) The serial console output is the best log to start with. Most serial port programs should have an option to capture data from the serial port in a file.

    AM5728 EVM. one with 7 inch touch screen.

    I know how to collect serial console output, but I don't know what exactly is useful for this issue, since I didn't do anything when the system crashes. The android image is straight out of the SDK, I didn't do any change whatsoever.

    The system becomes unstable or freezes and crashes after booting up with HDMI plug in. I guess it could be some kind of bug in the display part of the android system. It does not happen without HDMI plug in.

    Hello Peter,

    Got it.

    Even if you aren't doing anything yourself, the system often gives debug output on the serial console when an error or a crash occurs. Even if the board simply shuts off without giving anything like a kernel panic error on the serial console, sometimes we can see things like key parts not getting initialized during bootup. So the console output is often a useful first step to narrowing down the issue.

    Hi Nick,

    Okay, let me dig into that. but meanwhile I believe the crash can be reproduced on any EVM when you connect to a HDMI output. Could you please take a look at that as well?

    Hello Peter,

    Using the prebuilt image in Processor SDK 4.2 on an unmodified AM5728 EVM board, I did not observe any crashes. In the first hour long test I connected HDMI after Android had already booted. In the second hour long test HDMI was connected before the board was booted.
