Linux/AM5728: Hardware timers

Hi,

we are developing a software with AM5728 linux sdk on AM5728 module. We would like to invoke hardware timer(s) for some periodic work in the software. please guide us to utilize hardware timers .

Hi Marka,

AM57x hardware timers are described in below DTS file:

linux-4.9.59/arch/arm/boot/dts/dra7.dtsi

linux-4.9.59/Documentation/devicetree/bindings/arm/omap/timer.txt

The drivers are:

linux-4.9.59/arch/arm/plat-omap/dmtimer.c
linux-4.9.59/arch/arm/mach-omap2/timer.c

Some of the timers (timer3/5/6/11) are used for late attach functionality, refer to the below pointers:

linux-4.9.59/arch/arm/boot/dts/am57xx-beagle-x15-common.dtsi

processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Early_Boot_and_Late_Attach_in_Linux

Some of the timers (timer15/16) are used in IDK board MAC module:

There is also example for timer in PWM mode:

Hi Pavel,

Thank you for the information.

We are using linux sdk 4.4.32 .
Any modifications /changes w.r.to the above SDK to make use of timers.

Hi Marka,

The above pointers should be also valid for kernel 4.4
