Dear team,

I am running decode on am5718.The board is a custom designed.

When the board booting or reload firmware, the ipu2 can not work.

I found a topic in the community have the same issue, but no more reply.

  • Hi,

Please read AM571x Errata Advisory i862.
  • My board is using PORZn.

  • Hi, Fei Liang,

There was a discussion on a similar issue on one of a custom board. Please see the discussion of the thread and my response, e2e.ti.com/.../2326526

You may want to check your hardware.

    Rex
  • Thanks for reply,

I have see the discussion before.

Cortex-A15 core run well, and ddr memory pass tests.

    What should I check first?

  • Hi Rex,

Have you ever seen this issue on TI AM5718 IDK EVM based on the latest Processor SDK?

  • Hi, Jian,

Please see attached console log from am571x-idk using Linux ProcSDK 4.2 release.

    Rex

  • Hi Rex,
    Thanks for your support!
Customer has checked the issue again and thay found that the issue is related with EMU0 pin, when the EMU0 pin is configured as GPIO, the issue appeared.
I see that there is an errata advisory about EMU0/EMU1 GPIO usage for AM335x, could you please ask chip level engineer to check if this errata advisory is also for AM5728/18? Thanks a lot!
  • Jian,

Please provide more details about what happens when it fails and what happens when it succeeds.  Is the only change the status of the EMU0 pin while the device is waking from porz reset?

How do you have EMU0 and EMU1 connected on your board?  I am not sure it truly qualifies as an erratum but I do believe that holding either EMU0 or EMU1 low during device boot can affect its wake-up behavior.  As stated in the AM335x errata document, I believe these pins on AM57xx devices should also be high while waking from porz reset.  They can then later be re-configured for GPIO mode.  You will need to add logic to your board to make sure that these return high whenever a reset occurs by monitoring the rstoutn pin.

    Tom

  • Jian,

Also, how does this affect only the IPU2 module?  I would expect that holding either EMU0 or EMU1 low during reset release would cause the device to not operate at all.  Do you only see problems with IPU2?

    Tom

  • Thanks for reply.

In my board EMU0 was configured as a gpio.

After linux booting,  a IPU hardreset failed message was frequently  found.

Another, if system booting without the ipu hardreset error,IPU firmware can work. But after reload firmware with "echo .... > bind" and "echo ... > unbind" command many times,  I can also get a IPU hardreset error.

    I am using AM5718 ,ipu1 ipu2 and dsp1 have the same issure.

Also I test on AM5728, configure EMU0 in the uboot mux_data.h as a gpio, I can get the same "hardreset failed".

But if I configure the EMU0 pin with mode0 in uboot , ipu and dsp can work well without any "hardreset failed"  message. In my test  the emu0  was not reconfigured mode in the linux dtb.

  • Jian,

At this time you can proceed assuming that the same limitations exist in the AM57xx devices as documented in the AM335x errata document related to the EMU[1:0] pins.  You will need to make sure these pins return high whenever the device is exiting reset as indicated by rstoutn.  After the device is operational, then these pins can be returned to GPIO usage.  We will work internally to determine how this should be documented.

  • Tom,

    Thanks for your recommendation.

  • Tom,
Customer feedback that they have pulled up the EMU[1:0] during PORZ, and configure it as GPIO, it will also lead to IPU/DSP reset failure, could you please help to check this issue?
  • Jian,

I am confused.  I thought that you said previously that this solved the problem.  Please provide a scope capture showing the timing of porz, rstoutn and EMU0 when it fails.  I want to understand the timing of your implementation.  Also provide a scope capture of the same signals on a boot cycle that results in proper operation of the device.

  • Tom,
Sorry for the confusion, customer just check the EMU0 agian, and they have pulled up the EMU[1:0] during PORZ, and configure it as GPIO in Uboot, they find the IPU/DSP reset failure issue during Linux kernel initialization.
  • Jian,

I still want to see the pass and fail scope captures.
