Linux/AM3505: USB WiFi dongle issue

Our board use AM3505 + Linux 2.6 kernel. After board power on.

I unplug and plug rtl8187 USB WiFi dongle multi times, and got following messages:

hub 1-0:1.0: port 1 disabled by hub (EMI?), re-enabling...
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 2
usb 1-1.1: USB disconnect, address 3

After that, Linux cannot detect USB device again. It must be power off and power on to recover.

I try same procedure with rtl8812au and rtl8814au USB WiFi dongle, the error does not happen.

Is this on the EHCI port or MUSB port?

This seems like signal integrity problem. Can you please test the same on TI AM3517 EVM with the Sitara AM SDK 6.0 kernel?

Our board is an old version that only support 1 bit nand flash.

The SDK 6.0 is a new version for 4 bit nand flash?

Because rtl8187 driver is not included in the kernel. I need compile it with kernel source and install it.

So the nand ECC is an issue.

Do you have any suggestion about it?

USB is my support area, I don't know much about flash related.

I was asking you to test the dongle on the AM3517 EVM, are you saying you have problem to re-build the kernel to include rtl8187 driver for the evm? You can put all the Linux images in the SD card and boot the evm from the SD card.

Because the AM3517 EVM does not support rtl8187 dongle now.
When I plug the dongle, OS can not detect it.
I need install the driver for the rtl8187 dongle.
For compile driver, I need kernel source. And for install the driver, I also need install the new version kernel.
Because the new kernel source I get support 4 bit nand ECC, and our board nand is 1 bit ECC.
So, I am not sure the new kernel can run on the old version board.

I didn't ask you to change the kernel version on your board.
I suspect the issue you reported is signal integrity related, so I asked you to test the dongle on TI EVM to see if the issue also happens on the EVM.

By the way, I thought the 2.6 kernel you use on your board comes from the SDK6.0. But now it sounds like you don't use the SDK6.0 on your board. We don't support any other kernel which is not in SDK6.0 for AM3505.

I cannot reproduce the issue on EVM board.

The OS can detect USB device after 50 times unplug and plug.

Thanks for testing on the evm.

As I mentioned previously, this is indeed likely to be EMI problem on your board. Please review your board design and layout.
