Hi,

We are having problems booting a custom made XAM1808 card with the following specifications:

- LAN8710A-EZK-TR, LAN IC
- M25P64-VME6TG, SPI FLASH
- MT46H32M16LFBF, DDR Ram
- NAND01GW3B2CZA6E, NAND Flash

The voltage supplies are made with different circuits according to TI examples.

This is what we know:

- The voltages are correct.
- The oscillator is working at 24Mhz.
- The boot config is set to boot from SPI1 (00001100)
- The SPI Memory is working (verified with a LogicPD card)
- ICs are mounted the correct way.
- RESET_OUT works according to the specifications.

The problems we see:

- No activity on SPI clock line or SPI CS.
- No activity on UART1 or UART2 when changing boot pins accordingly.

Do you have any good ideas where to look for the problem next?

If you have access to CCS and can connect to ARM, please provide us the printout after running the following gel file

If you don't have access to CCS, please see if you can provide us the contents of the registers listed in this other thread ( you could have a similar issue)

Hi Mukul,

Does the XAM1808 still need the SATA and USB connected to 1.2V? The exact partnumber is XAM1808AZCE4 $7A-01ACDJW. I will try to see if I can connect CCS to it.

The part number indicates rev 1.1 silicon

Section 1.2

For rev 1.1 , you would need SATA and USB connected to 1.2V as recommended in the schematic checklist

Otherwise you can see symptoms similar to the one you are observing. GEL file printout should help further confirm this.

mDDR is likely going to be initialized as part of your boot image, so if the boot process is not happening correctly (because of SATAVDD tie up etc for Rev1.x silicon), then likely you will not see the mDDR clocks.

This is exactly what we have forgotten to add (we intended to use a AM1806 but we couldn't get hold of one). It of cause makes complete sense that the SDRAM clock wouldn't be initialized.

I guess that this problem wouldn't occur in the AM1806 as it has no SATA, right?

Do you know if the issue is fixed with the non X versions, e.g. AM1808BZCE4 or AM1808BZCE3?

Yes, for TMS version of the silicon, both AM1808 and AM1806, "B" , this issue is fixed, and even if you don't power up SATA_VDD and USB_CVDD, you should not have any issues.

Hi,

Now we got the AM1808 to start up we can see activity on the SPI CS signal and the Clock. The FW in the SPI Flash should boot up and display terminal information on UART2, however the terminal software is unable to see anything, the signal shows up on a scope.

Also setting BOOT to boot from UART doesn't display BOOTME.

Niclas,

The BOOTME message is pretty straightforward for the UART bootmode so I would definitely expect to see the message.

Can you double-check the BOOTCFG register at 0x01C14020 to verify that the bootpins are seeing the correct logic values? Also, the UART boot assumes that the input reference clock is 24MHz. If your custom board uses a different frequency the baud rate will be different.

We did get it to work. It seems that the card we were using had some issues /buggered in some way). We tried with a different one and it works like it should. Now we actually have it working really well. Boot via UART works, we can upload stuff to the SPI Memory and we can boot from SPI memory. Now next thing is to get a Linux kernel to boot from SPI flash, I guess that it is possible right?
