Compiler/TMDSLCDK138: Problem getting the device to debug code and run code.

Part Number: TMDSLCDK138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

I purchased the  above referenced item.  Inside was a "Quick Start Guide", which I followed. Activation of device more or less followed what Steps 1-9 indicated.  The guide ends with "...and you are ready to begin developing."  But not really.  I downloaded CCS (Ver 8) and followed setup.  It loaded and looked good.  I installed Hyperterminal.   I tried to load and run several of the example programs.  But i kept getting an error message saying "emulator not found".  Then i noticed a note that said the product did not have an emulator, and a separate emulator was needed.

So is this true?  Do i need to spend another $200-$500 for another device?  I looked through several web TI sites.  I tried several config files, but no luck.  Can someone tell me exactly how to get the device actually "ready to begin developing"?? I need a better "quick start guide" that actually gets me to the point where I can write, debug and run code.  As I said, I have installed all of the SW that was indicated and followed all instructions, but I always get an error when I try to run debugger.  (The code builds OK.)

Thanks

  • Hi,

    If you wish to use CCS for creating custom applications & debugging the code on the board, then yes, you need an external emulator. LCDK does not have an on board emulator.

    Otherwise you can boot linux & custom linux applications on your OMAP-L138 LCDK using an SD Card.

    For booting ROTS from sd card, see this wiki:

    You can also build the RTOS example applications and use the out2rprc to convert them from .out to binaries that can be loaded via the SBL from SD Card, see "Making Loadable User Application image (app)" from the above link.

    Best Regards,
