AM5728: HDMI I2C error

Part Number: AM5728

Hello,

I'm writing to get your suggestion related to "HDMI I2C Master error" on our custom AM5728 board design. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 and latest version of SDK(04.02.00.09). We've used TPD12S521DBTR for hdmi esd and level shifter purpose. Our custom board has on-board HDMI out connector for video display. After successful booting, we've performed "modetest" command and attached result.

We've probed the hdmi i2c lines and we've observed that they are toggling. Also, we've attached .dts file and Kernel configuration.

Regards

Alican

[ 81.115746] omapdss error: HDMI I2C Master Error
    root@am57xx-evm:~#

    Hi There,

    What we have noticed lately;

There is a difference between GP AM572X EVM Rev A3 HDMI Positive-Negative Connection compared to our custom board. HDMI ...x pins are negative and HDMI...y pins are positive on EVM but on our custom board we have connected HDMI...x pins as positive and HDMI...y pins as negative.

Where are we supposed to make changes(on device tree? Kernel source code etc.)  to be on the same page with EVM RevA3?

Dmesg Log file is attached for HDMI I2C Master Error

  • Hello,

In the log I see [ 1.596328] connector-hdmi connector: failed to find video source
I would recommend you to check this board-support/linux-version/Documentation/devicetree/bindings/display/connector/hdmi-connector.txt and this file am57xx-beagle-x15-common.dtsi , am57xx-beagle-x15.dts.
You may check these threads also:

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Biser,

There is a difference between GP AM572X EVM Rev A3 HDMI Positive-Negative Connection compared to our custom board. HDMI ...x pins are negative and HDMI...y pins are positive on EVM but on our custom board we have connected HDMI...x pins as positive and HDMI...y pins as negative. As you see on the data sheet attached, x or y pins can be positive or negative.

With EVM we have video on our HDMI Display but there is not with our custom board.

How can we control HDMI differential signal Data and Clock pins polarity (positive-negative)?

    Regards, Alican

  • Hello,

Let me check. I will get back to you when I have something.

  • Documentation/devicetree/bindings/display/ti/ti,omap5-dss.txt shows 'lanes' property for hdmi, which can be set to define the pin setup. I see that you already have setup 'lanes' property in your device tree file.

Please note that "HDMI I2C Master error" does not have anything to do with the HDMI PHY pins, but the i2c wires. For the i2c error, it could be a HW issue (extra pulls in the board). You could also try changing the i2c timings.

Below changes once resolved similar issue on our setup.
