Linux/PROCESSOR-SDK-DRA7X: Iva Engine hangs

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-DRA7X

Tool/software: Linux

Hi,

I am using 2 instances of IVA decoder and 1 instance of IVA encoder in my application. The application is for Jacinto 6 platform.

It is observed that, at times, the IVA decoder gets hung in the decode process call and does not return control to the application.

This behavior is random and does not happen always. It does not seem to be dependent on the stream as well.

1) What might be the reason for this hang?

2) Is it possible for the application to reset the decoder instance? if not, will creating a new instance help? If not, how can this issue be handled?

3) Is there a time duration that can be considered after which the application can take up the reset actions?

Thanks,

Divya B M

Are you using the application from vision SDK? or you use the processor SDK Linux?
IVA decoder can get hang due to multiple reasons - such as due to memory corruption, due to wrong parameter settings, or even due to very much corrupted input bitstream. We do have some level of error resiliency, but observed some hangs due to very badly corrupted input bitstream

  • Hi Shiju,

    Thanks for the information.

We are using processor SDK Linux. When the IVA hangs

    1) Is it possible for the application to reset the decoder instance? if not, will creating a new instance help? If not, how can this issue be handled?

    2)  Is there a time duration that can be considered after which the application can take up the reset actions?

    3) Is there any way to avoid such a situation?

  • Hi Divya
Its not possible to rest the IVA HW. Creating another instance also will not work as it again use the same IVA HW.
Can you try play your bit-stream with some PC players like VLC etc. to make sure, there is no issue with input stream
Also analyze the stream with some analyzer like Elecard and see what the stream properties, may be some settings are messed-up?

    regards, Shiju
