Linux: DRA7x: Uboot - Can't enter to u-boot mode

I am trying to build my system using instruction from this article

I am able to boot the system however after 'one' time boot/flash, I can't go into the u-boot mode with the same SDCARD I used earlier.

Hi,

Can you add the line '#define CONFIG_MMC_TRACE" to the beginning of the file 'drivers/mmc/mmc.c' in u-boot and send across the logs.

Hi,

I would suggest you move to official release

Also, follow the full flashing procedure as mentioned in the release notes and make sure you flashed the right dtb file in 'environment' partition.

Thank you both for the input.

Initially, I follow the same procedure however, current issue is I am unable to stop in the U-boot & It is not recognizing the same SDCARD (For different reasons in powerup/reboot see above) and not giving me the option to flash.

I can't add these lines until I get the option to flash the system, for that I need to enter in the U-boot mode.

Is your problem stopping the 3 second timer and interrupting the u-boot to get in to u-boot console?

For now, yes, I can't enter into the U-boot console after hundreds of attempts.

Do you see the 3 second timer?
If yes, try another PC or program.

You can see above message, where console print the 'hit the key to autoboot ' , it just pass without going 3->2->1

Can you try pressing the character 'c' on the keyboard continuously after power up and see if it interrupts the boot process.

No, I did it again.

If you see the above log carefully , you can see it does read the SDCARD and then it denies :

SD/MMC found on device 0
reading boot.scr
** Unable to read file boot.scr **
reading uEnv.txt
** Unable to read file uEnv.txt **
switch to partitions #0, OK
mmc0 is current device

I did change the SDCARD too however have same issue.
FYI, I change from putty to minicom doesn't make any difference.

Can you perform a couple of checks / changes

1.Modify the DIP switch settings to below -- this ensures that the board boots from the SD card:

SYSBOOT [0-15]
OFF OFF OFF OFF ON ON OFF OFF    ON OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF ON

USERCONFIG [SW5] (similar to what was provided in the user-guide)
OFF OFF ON OFF ON ON ON OFF OFF OFF

2. Make sure that the contents of the boot partition on your SD card are only MLO and u-boot.img. Delete all other contents in your boot partition. Also ensure the boot partition is a FAT partition

Are you able to halt at u-boot now? Do you see the prompt going from 3->2->1?

If you setup the DIP switch settings as recommended on the release-notes page the single-stage boot loader (MLO) is from the SD-card. The MLO then jumps to the second-stage bootloader u-boot.img. From these logs I understand:

(a) You may not be booting from the SD card (thus the recommendation to change DIP setting to production SD boot mode, which ensures you boot only from the SD card)

(b) Your boot partition may not have u-boot.img or has the uImage present in the boot partition (thus the recommendation to clear contents of the SD card boot partition and only keep u-boot.img and MLO)

Regarding this error:

We need more information on why this exactly occurs. Add the line '#define CONFIG_MMC_TRACE" in the file 'drivers/mmc/mmc.c' in u-boot repository and rebuild the MLO and u-boot.img. Copy this updated MLO and u-boot.img files to the SD card. Thes updated images provide more logs on the exact operation at which the card voltage select fails. Details on how to rebuild u-boot can be found here:

I was able to fix this, it was due to a change in the u-boot configuration.
