CCS/TMS320C6748: Real time audio processing using DSPLIB and mcaspPlayBk.c Starterware

I have attempted to implement my own FIR filter within the mcasp audio in audio out starterware on my C6748-LCDK. I am following the same C equivalent code presented in the programmers reference guide [http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spru657c/spru657c.pdf] for the DSPF_sp_fir_gen function. My output does not reflect that of a FIR filter. Is there any example code or specific information that can show me:

  1. How to manipulate the incoming data within the mcasp starterware to create DSP effects.
  2. How to use DSPLIB in reference to the mcasp starterware. 
  3. Alternatives to the mcasp starterware example for processing audio on the C6748.

I have spent a few months working on this board and have read through all of the forum posts I can find, but am making little progress. Any information that could help me progress development would be greatley appreciated.
