66AK2H12: Question about K2H EVM design.

Part Number: 66AK2H12
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS51200, TPS51206

Hi team,

I found there 2 TPS51200 on K2H EVM. One for DiscreteSDRAM Array and another for SO-DIMM.

Can we reduce this design and use 1 TPS51200 for both on customer's board? thanks!

BR,
Denny

  • Hi,

This is done, because at design time it has been estimated that both VCCB0V75 & VCCA0V75 need 3A current, giving a total of 6A, which cannot be handled by a single TPS51200. If you use a part that is scaled to handle the total current for both VCCA & VCCB, then you could use it.

I am notifying the hw team to elaborate if needed.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Denny,

As Yordan said, this is all about current capability.  The customer needs to calculate the maximum current required for VTT on both memory arrays.  If the max draw is less than 3A, then a single LDO is sufficient.  There are also smaller VTT LDOs (like the TPS51206) where you can still have 2 but at lower current for each.  I assume they cost less too.
