Hi,

I am using ADS1298RECGFE-PDK with TMS320VC5507 MMB0 modular EVM. I want to realize it with Bluetooth module instead of USB cable.So, Is it possible to connect a Bluetooth module to the given EVM??Can i connect a Bluetooth module through J1 connector?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure were looking at the same schematics. Can you share the schematics you are referring to?

I found this MMB0 board with VC5507 DSP in my stash. And I found some documentation for a daughter board that attaches to it: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sbau126d/sbau126d.pdf

On the MMB0 motherboard, J1 is the USB receptical. It will not be possible to use J1 to connect to a bluetooth device. The VC5507 USB peripheral can only operate as a slave/device and requires a host to communicate with.

Further, the VC5507 DSP does not have UART, which is commonly used to communicate between a bluetooth module like the CC265x. The J4 header on the MMB0 motherboard does have McBSP, I2C, and GPIO signals routed to it. I believe McBSP can be configured to operate as a SPI device.
If you can find a bluetooth device that can operate with I2C or SPI, then you may have a chance. Or if the bluetooth device can self-configure, and consumes only I2S (from the McBSP), then that may be an option. But the ADS12xx also shares the McBSP port, so you may need to blue-wire the ADS daughter board to disable the McBSP from getting to the ADS12xx chip (perhaps a GPIO to OE on the level shifter).

Its admittedly a stretch.

The MMB0 motherboard you have mentioned is same as mine.but the daughter board is different.I am using ADS1298RECGFE-PDK: www.ti.com/.../sbau181b.pdf

As per your suggestion i will try to find a Bluetooth device that can operate with I2C or SPI.

I also would like to know any other DSP for my daughter board to interface with Bluetooth?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the information. It might resolve my issue.

I have already gone through the user guide of C5545 Boosterpack DSP.

But My doubt is whether it will be compatible to my daughter board ADS1298RECGFE or not?

As i need 3 connector J4, J5 and J7 to mount the daughter board to DSP. So, Is it possible to mount the daughter board ADS1298RECGFE onto your suggested DSP's?

Hi Sudestna,

You cannot mount the ADS daughter board to the boosterpack or eZdsp directly. It will require wires or an adapter board.

However, you can mount the ADS daughter board to the C5517 EVM and C5515 EVM (with some modification to the C5515 EVM).

Both C5517 EVM and C5515 EVM have the headers to attache the ADS daughter board (J10, J14, J15/J13).

The C5515 EVM has the UART signals swizzled at P1 and the I2S signals swizzled at P2, so you could either use SPI or unswizzle the signals on the bluetooth module that attaches to P1/P2 - there should be series resistors that you can blue-wire to swap TX and RX back.

The C5517 EVM supports the bluetooth modules without any modification, but that EVM is admittedly complicated with its many muxing options that are controlled through DIP switches that can also be overridden with software...

Code for the C5515 EVM exists at https://code.google.com/archive/p/c5505-ezdsp/downloads, but this software is no longer supported or maintained. You are on your own to get the software working, unfortunately. TI end-of-life'd the medical development kit (the ADS12xx daugther board you have) several years ago.
