Disk read speed slow on EVM2 board based on bsp6.15.00

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP3530

Hi, all

I find the disk(NandFlash) read speed is very slow on EVM2 board based on bsp6.15.00, about 2.8MB/S,

in other platforms, the average speed is about 6.3MB/S.

Is there anything to improve this issue?

  • What tests are you using to do this comparison? Do you have File system cache manager enabled or disabled? Is other platform using same NAND chip as the EVM?

    thanks

    Atul

  • Atul,

I enabled file cache manager before. Now, I disable it, and the read speed improve to 13M/S or so, while the write speed becomes slower from 2.7M/S to 2.1M/S

  • From the text files I received in email, it appears that you are comparing SD perf on one platform versus NAND perf on EVM2? Is this correct? If so, the comparison is wrong. Also, do you have CETK perf data from two platforms (and for the same medium) - that is one way to make fair comparison

    Atul

  • Atul,

sorry to send text file by mistake. the nand Perf on our custom platform is as below:

  • Below is the latest test for Omap3530, disable file cache manager:

So, we can see that, when disable file cache manager, the read speed increase verus the write speed increase decrease.

My confusion is why this happens, how to improve the write speed?

  • I don't know what all your test app does - random read/writes or sequential? In any case, these numbers would change depending upon datasize and read/write patterns. Did you get a chance to run File System perf test from CETK (with cache manager enabled/disabled). This CETK test varies several parameter and you may be able to get better picture of what is going on

    Atul

  • Hi,

What is the CETestContainer ? How does it work, or can you provide one copy to let us to use it to test SDCard performance?

  • 2781.CETestContainer.rar

It is a disk read/write test tool.

when run the tool, you can select 'storage'  in the menu, and next 'auto read/write' item,  when you select one or more of the target devices and click the 'start' button,

the test results will be saved in root path of ResidentFlash automatically, where ResidentFlash is the name of Flash device.

Of course, if your flash device folder name is not ResidentFlash, you can make a new folder named ResidentFlash in the same level as Windows, to save the test results
