Hello

On custom board I can't get any logs with booting via microsd and serial. Issue at omap_smc1() call.

I use last sdk images.

I can connect to debug and upload SPL firmware. But have an issues with stepping in debug mode.

Firmware loaded:

Go step by step till 'pop' command:

'pop' doesn't work and CPU jumps to beginning of memory:

What else can I do bringup my board?

u-boot from
ti-processor-sdk-linux-am57xx-evm-04.02.00.09 and ti-processor-sdk-linux-am57xx-evm-04.03.00.05
Just compiled u-boot by 'make' command. I tried also some previous versions of SDK.

Commented call to omap_smc1, now hangs at v7_arch_cp15_set_l2aux_ctrl()

Could you pass over the same steps in debugger with am5718?

I'll try. I did talk with a member of the CCS team and he said the XDS510 is rather old so do you have access to a newer JTAG emulator?

According to www.ti.com/.../debug.html

XDS200 USB Debug Probe
and
XDS100v2 JTAG Debug Probe (14-pin version) are applicable for me.
I will try to find it.
Could you give me list of probably another debuggers compatible with Sitara?

Before trying a different emulator, can you load the file u-boot-spl-dtb.bin and see if that works.

I just single-stepped through SPL code by loading u-boot-spl-dtb.bin.

Could you give me more details please: CPU/board, u-boot version/sdk version, CCS version, load address, debugger, some screenshots if possible.

I jsut tried with sau100v2 and u-boot-nodtb.bin file. No difference, can't step over 'mrc p15, #4, r0, c1, c0, #0'

You need to use u-boot-spl-dtb.bin.

Try a different emulator. I used CCS 8.0. My board is an AM5749 IDK which has an integrated FTDI chip so the USB port has a UART interface and something like an XDS100 emulator. I am able to use CCS without any problems.

I already use another one (sau100v2) and CCS8. u-boot (sdk 04.03.00.05) was compiled without any config changes. u-boot-spl-dtb.bin can't step over 'mrc p15, #4, r0, c1, c0, #0' call. As I understand despite on any board periphery (DDR etc.) CPU core should go through initialization. Probably some secure restrictions present? Or specific power/boot configuration?

Can you un-comment the smc call and try again? That mrc assumes the hypervisor is enabled.

smc call was uncommented, clear initial code is used u-boot-spl-dtb.bin.

Do you have access to a TI GP EVM or TI IDK board? I have tried on the IDK and do not have any problems.

One more question: Are you running on a Linux PC or a Linux virtual machine on Windows? I am using a dedicated Linux PC with no problems at all.

Real Linux Ubuntu 16.04 PC with XDS100v2, ccsv8

and

Real Windows 7 PC with XDS100v2, ccsv8.

The same problem/behavior.

So I have to check with another am57xx board which I don't have now.

Ok. I am using Ubuntu 14.04 on a dedicated PC. I have to check with the CCS team and see if it is supported on Ubuntu 16.04.

I was just over with a CCS person and we could only re-create your problem if we started in Abort mode. If we did a CPU reset, the board would go to Supervisor mode. But I just noticed that you start in Supervisor mode? Are you doing a reset before loading code and symbols? That was how we ended up in Supervisor mode.

I triyed a lot of variants with reset and without, but it's not the reason. See my next post.

The reason was simple but I don't know why it happens. 'pop' command couldn't work properly because SP is wrong, only one my screenshot shows it, so, I don't know why it happened. After firmware loading we have right PC = 0x40300000 and wrong SP = 0x0BADCODE e.g.

To fix this I added one ASM line to reset vector:

reset:
	ldr     sp, =CONFIG_SYS_INIT_SP_ADDR

It solved my very initial code and I've got next issue with DDR, but it will be new post.

Please answer why SP is wrong after booting via JTAG. Thanks.

I did not have to do that. In CCS I did a CPU reset so the boot ROM code gets executed and stops at the reset vector. SP contains the internal RAM offset that the boot ROM used for the stack. Then I loaded the SPL code and it executed just fine.
