I have a 3 part question.

1. How do I interact with the mass storage device using the USB host controller? The documentation seems to indicate that the UART port should be used but I am unable to open a shell. The UART port just reads the last status output (RTOS loaded etc)

2. I am looking to make the USB OTG port a mass storage device. I have tied USB_ID to GND using JP1 connector. However I still dont see any power for a USB thumbdrive connected to this port.

3. Is there any NTFS support at all?

Hello nazgul,

I am sorry for the delayed response.

1. The UART port should be used (see Device Drivers). However, when I run the Host MSC example on my end, it's not detecting my USB drive and the terminal only displays "RTOS USB Host MSC example!!" I'm looking into why this is happening. Is this also the behavior you're seeing?

2. I'm going to see if I can get a hardware expert to comment on this.

3. There is currently no NTFS support.

1. Yes, this is exactly what I am seeing as well.

2. This is very important to my application as the end use is going to be to use the USB-OTG to enumerate if the device is audio class or mass storage class and use it appropriately. Any documentation you can share of enumerating in multi modes (one mode at a time) would also help, in addition to the hardware inputs.

2.
In addition to pulling ID, you must provide +5V VBUS for OTG and host modes.
A Power-Distribution Switch like TPS2042B (www.ti.com/.../tps2042b) can be used to connect VBUS +5V to the USB OTG or host receptacle.
Utilize the USB0_DRVVBUS output to drive the gate of an N-channel FET that in turn closes the TPS2042B switch by shorting the EN# signal to GND.

Hi nazgul,

It turns out we need to use the USB OTG port on the LCDK for the Host MSC example, so you will need a Mini USB to USB adapter. I'll update the PRSDK documentation to explicitly state this so that others don't run into the same issue.

As for documentation, the StarterWare USB wiki page is a good resource to refer to. While StarterWare is a legacy software package, much of the functionality has been integrated into Processor SDK so the documentation still remains relevant.
