Dear Sirs,

I have developed my application (embedded application, no HDMI required) on BeagleBone Black in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and it works fine now. Now I am building my own mass production hardware based on AM3352BZCZD60 instead of AM3358. There are some hardware differences from BeagleBone Black as follows (DDR3, eMMC are the same as BeagleBone Black):

No Board ID EEPROM

Realtek RTL8211E Gigabit PHY

Would you please help me to build a Ubuntu SD Image like BeagleBone Black? I have followed the procedure on the following link and can build a SD Image successfully. However, I need a TI expert to help me on changing the MLO and u-boot related codes to match up my hardware changes.

Thanks for your link for the www.beagleboard.org Ubuntu supporting site. However, my question is more about the u-boot that I believe TI can help me more. Can you provide your comments on which source file I have to look into and modify to match up my hardware? Thank you!

This forum supports only the Processor SDK released by TI. You can download it here: www.ti.com/.../PROCESSOR-SDK-AM335X

The files here are where you should start. See the board.c file and modify the EEPROM ID detection related code to work however you like.

There is a readme file in there for customization as well.

Thanks for your comments. That's help me a lot. At least I can look into the code to start.

My application software now can work with BeagleBone Black (BBB), I can build a Unbuntu Image and works correctly on this BBB board as well. Our own board is almost equivalent to BBB except we use AM3352 (600MHz) instead of AM3358 (1GHz) on BBB and we use RTL8211E Phy, we use the same DDR3L SDRAM as BBB.

I tried my pebuilt Ubuntu SD Image (which works great on BBB) on our board, it cannot boot, I even cannot see any message on the console. I heard that TI EVM board does not need to change any software if we move among on all AM335x CPUs, if it is true, why my BBB Ubuntu Image cannot work on AM3352?

Hi Ahmad,

By the way, I have duplicated the board ID of the BeagleBone Black to our EEPROM. So the board can be be treated as an "AM3352-based BeagleBone Black".

FYI I believe the EEPROM you want to match is "A335BNLT"

Did you use the same exact DDR model numbers and board layout? If you start up the processor with no SD card do you see "C" printed over and over on the UART console? That's the one "sign of life" you could look for. If it is alive, then U-boot should be the first thing to run and that output will be printed too. If you see the "C"s printed out but no u-boot when the SD card is inserted then there's some DDR configuration you need to fix.

When you get to the point where you start customizing u-boot, I recommend following this tutorial to get you started on how to clone the official u-boot repository and compile it. The generated MLO and u-boot.img files from this process can be used to replace the files on the "boot" drive that you get from the official BeagleBone Debian uSD image. You shouldn't need to build the kernel or format the SD card as described in the rest of the tutorial.
