CCS/TDA3XEVM: MPEG encoding and streaming on Ethernet

Hello,

We want to compress the data captured from the camera's and stream it over the ethernet. But look like TDA3x does not have an MPEG encoder. Is it possible to compress the data in any other way?

Or can an MPEG encoder be enabled in software? Is there any reference code available for a similar use-case?

Hi Siddarth,

You are correct we have to use IVA hardware for codec operations ,
TDA3xx doesn't have an IVA hardware .
Currently we don't have any software encoder supported in SDK .

You may have to integrate a software encoder and use it . By default SDK doesn't support any software encoder

Is it at least possible to reduce the resolution on the images? Currently we are using the OV10640 cameras which have a default resolution of 1240x720. We are only getting about 2 frames per second when we use the network_ctrl tool to get the images.

How can we change the resolution to 640x480 to get a better frame rate?

Siddarth ,

Either you can set the capture parameters to capture less or scale the same using VPE .

Its advisable to set the capture output parameters to give you the required width and height

TDA3x does not have a VPE. How do we enable down-scaling on TDA3x?

Which version of SDK are you using ,

You can use the VPE , TDA3xx does have a vpe resizer ,
Please enable VPE_Include = yes in cfg.mk under build config which you are building,

There is no VPE on TDA3x,, you need to use ISS resizer for scaling.

Include ISS_RESIZER in your build. Most likely it should be included by default.
