720P HD video supported on DM6437 EVM ?

The DM6437 was designed to be a standard definition (SD) single channel video processor, so the EVM was designed with this in mind, thus the answer to your first question is no, and since there is no hardware for HD the software is only setup to support SD.

This being said, to get HD input and output from a DM6437 you would have to have custom hardware, either a daughterboard or an entirely custom board, and the software would have to be tweaked to fit the new hardware and resolutions.

I am curious what type of application you were planning for the DM6437 with 720p video?

The DM6467 EVM handles HD video, you may also hear this part called Davinci HD, also the new DM365 EVM handles HD video as well, both use component video input and output. Depending on your system needs one may be better than the other, DM6467 has been around for a while now and it has a C64x+ DSP on board so it is a bit more flexible, the DM365 is relatively new and few people even have the EVM yet, it is more like an extention of the DM355 as it has no C64x+ DSP, only video accelerators.

It certainly does, it also has basic encode and decode demos that operate in HD.

It appears that besides 720P HD, we also need DVI input and output. Of course we'll need a C64x+ DSP. I wonder if there is any DM64x (or OMAP35x) board with all these features. Or do we have to get an add-on card?

You would actually need some sort of add-in card or custom board for this, as none of the evaluation boards have a DVI input, the only EVM with DVI at all is the OMAP3, and that is only an output.

We've decided to just use 480i on the DM6437 EVM for now, I assume that 480i input and output are supported, on either the composite or the S-video port of the board. Could you please confirm this?

Certainly, 480i is definately supported and what is available for capture and display through either composite or S-video, by default the demos and such setup the board for composite input and composite output.
