Hi Experts,

I am completely new to the ARM processors. I started my learning with Beagle bone black and got some idea on board bring up, boot loader and linux kernel stuff.

Recently i bought AM3359 ICE. I followed starter kit guide but unfortunately facing some issues.

1. I tried to insatall TwinCAT 2 on my windows 10 machine, but while installation prompting error message like "failed to install visual c++ distribution package". Even though i tried to install and at last installed.

As per starter kit tried to install TwinCAT RT-Ethernet driver but showing like " failed to install TwinCAT RT-Ethernet intermediate driver".

Could you please let me know, is it necessary to validate TwinCAT ethernet functionality and what is the use of this.

2. Can i directly load the prebuilt binaries(MLO, U-boot.bin,Uimage) to ICE without doing any starter kit actions? if so could you please let me know the procedure for serial peripheral booting along with load addresses for U-boot.bin and Uimage)

3. How ICE is in different with BBB w.r.t booting binaries and booting options.

Hi Gopal. for your TwinCAT questions I would suggest to post your questions to Beckhoff.. I installed TwinCAT 3 in my windows PC few years ago, and I don't recall those errors, but it was some time ago.

2) Which binaries are you trying to run? from which SDK? could you give us more details?

3) Are you trying to run PRU-ICSS EtherCAT slave in ICEv2 board? if so, you would need TI-RTOS PSDK (instead of Linux PSDK).

Please let us know your final goal, use case, so we can guide you better.

Thank you for your response.

I am trying to run linux sdk binaries: MLO,U-boot.bin and Uimage.

I want to just interface basic peripherals like sensors, external RTC, LCD controllers to the board and execute basic applications, which i did previously for BBB.

For BBB i downloaded uboot and linux kernel source codes from respective websites and changed configuration files at uboot and kernel level before build binaries:U-boot.bin and Uimage. If i want to follow the same things with ICE, what should i do? Is it need to install TwinCAT and EtherCAT related packages? Exactly for which application we can use EtherCAT?

Gopal,

Your confusion comes from the fact that the ICE board (ICE stands for Industrial Communications Engine) is primarily targeted for demonstration of industrial protocols (like EtherCAT), which run under TI-RTOS.

To run Linux on this board you will need to download the Linux Processor SDK: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

Follow the instructions on the download page.
