Hi Sitara Support Team,

I would like to know how many planes can accept the DSS of AM571x?

My customer hope it would be realized the following requirement.

However I suppose that the maximum planes are 2 planes on one display

and the customer requirement can be accept until [plotting4] or 8 planes.

The DSS of AM571x cannot manage [Plotting element5] and [Cursor Plane]

and one LCD display can manage only two planes.

Is my understanding correct?

Kanae,

The DSS writeback feature was introduced to avoid these types of limitations. It allows you to perform a memory-to-memory transaction such that you can utilize multiple passes through the DSS hardware to blend a large number of layers.

PS. I just noticed that the subject of this thread states the device as AM5716. In order to have DSS and VOUT capabilities, you need the AM5718.

Thank you for your quick reply!
Sorry, "AM5716" was my typo, the device name is "AM5718".

I would like to make sure that AM5718 can output more than 5 planes
on one LCD by the DSS writeback feature, is it correct?

If it is correct, could you please give the considerations and the limitation
when DSS ofAM5718 is designed using WB function to output several planes.

Kanae,

I expect it will be difficult to precisely state how many layers can be blended as there are a number of factors. For starters can you provide some details such as:

Resolution
Frame rate
Color Space Format
Any scaling or color space conversion that needs to be done
Are you doing a alpha blend or an overlay?
