why am389x has 2 video capture port and 2 video display which support up to 1080P60 ?

AM389X has not hardware video codec, but it has 2 video capture port and 2 video display which support up to 1080P60.

when 1080P60 video stream had been capture and stored into ddr sdram,     what operation we can do for them? There are not HDVICP in AM398x!

  • Hello,

When considering the targeted applications for these AM398x devices, the typical use case would not require video compression and decompression, and would thus not require HDVICPs.  The High-Definition Video Processing Subsystem (HDVPSS) in these devices provides high quality processing of the video signals, such as scaling and noise filtering.  Please refer to the HDVPSS section of the datasheet for information on the video processing features available in these devices.

Pin-compatible devices in the DaVinci (DM) product family (announcement targeted for 1Q11) will include the HDVICP2 video accelerators and will offer multichannel encode/decode capabilities.

  • Hi

The dual graphics and capture pipe line of AM389x is a good feature for Industrial displays and commercial digital signages. However I would like you to confirm that this is really a true dual display (meaning the two display controllers are capable displaying two different frame buffers). So, one display controller can display some advertisement while another can be used as a informative kiosk display. Pl confirm this.

On the capture interface, I am not seeing much details about the capture interface. Does it support 8,9,10 bit parallel capture interface as in OMAP35x? Does it support MIPI or HiSPI? What are the features and limitations of this capture pipeline? I am not seeing much information on that from your TRM.

It is good to know that there is a DaVinci family of 389x (the DM389x with ARM CortexA8 + DSP) would be available that can do multiformat video encoding/decoding. Can it do 1080p30 encoding/decoding in MPEG4/H.264? Do you have any info on that?

    Thanks

    Ashok.

  • Ashok,

On the display side they actually support up to 4 completely independent displays as follows...

    1) HDMI/20bit YUV up to 165MHz
    2) Digital 30/20 bit RGB/YUV up to 165 MHz
    3) Analog YPbPr up to 148.5MHz
    4) Analog SD video (RGB+CVBS)

    BR,

    Steve

  • Ashok,

More details on the capture interface are currently being added to the TRM, and an updated version will be made available soon.  The two digital video capture ports support a single digital video input up to 16/24-bit or dual 8-bit SD inputs on each capture port.

The DaVinci family of these devices will support 1080p30 encoding/decoding in MPEG4/H.264.
