TDA3: QSPI Flash: applicable to TDA3 booting

Genius 5785 points

Part Number: TDA3

Hello Experts,

We're planning to change QSPI Flash for TDA3 booting on the next prototype as follows.

winbond  W25Q256FV  http://www.winbond.com/hq/product/code-storage-flash-memory/serial-nor-flash/?__locale=en&partNo=W25Q256FV

GigaDevice  GD25Q256D  http://cn.gigadevice.com/product/detail/5/534.html

As far as I see below, they meet the boot requirements of TDA3. Could you check it just in case? Thank you.

TDA3 TRM (SPRUIE7A) : 25.8.4 SPI/QSPI Flash Devices

  • Hi Kazu,

Currently the TI QSPI driver does not support GigaDevice flash. You can see the Winbond flash's datasheet and compare with the one that is being supported by TI's driver. Driver code is here: <vsdk>\ti_components\drivers\pdk\packages\ti\boot\sbl_auto\qspiflash\src\qspi_cmd_init.c.
In case the flash commands are not same you will need to update the driver.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Rishabh,

Thank you for your answer. May I assume that these devices support just booting of TDA3? But after booting, PDK QSPI driver doesn't support GigaDevice flash. My understanding correct? I'll see the source code you indicated whether or not to support Winbond flash by PDK QSPI driver.

  • Hi Kazu,

RBL might be able to read SBL from GigaDevice flash but SBL won't be able to read application image as this read uses PDK QSPI driver.
Also yyou need to analyze the GigaDevice flash and see if meets the RBL specifications. You can refer Initialization chapter from TRM for this.
