How to build the XDAIS examples for dm365?

Hello,

I can't build the examples, provided with the XDAIS package for the DM365 device. I work with XDAIS 6.25.01.08, XDC tools 3.16.02.32 and CCS v4 (CGT 4.6.3.0). I followed the build instructions provided with the examples. After executing gmake, the build process starts and makes the '.interfaces' steps for all examples, but the build process stops after the first '.libraries' step with the error message:

The following symbols are undefined: _AUDDECCOPY_TI_IAUDDECCOPY

1 Assembly Error, No Assembly Warnings

Errors in Source - Assembler Aborted

I think I've made the correct changes for the config.bld and the Makefile. Here are my changes:

config.bld

var target  = xdc.module('ti.targets.arm.elf.Arm9');
target.rootDir = 'C:/Programme/Texas Instruments/ccsv4/tools/compiler/tms470';
Build.targets.$add(target);

Makefile

XDC_INSTALL_DIR = C:/Programme/Texas Instruments/xdctools_3_16_02_32
XDAIS_INSTALL_DIR = C:/Programme/Texas Instruments/xdais_6_25_01_08

XDCPATH = ^;$(XDAIS_INSTALL_DIR)/packages;$(XDC_INSTALL_DIR)/packages;

To start the build process, I changed to the examples directory and enter 'gmake clean' and then 'gmake'.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

  • Hi,

    Can you explain what are you trying to build ? DVSDK demo(whcih version) or codec standlaone package ?

    regards

    Yashwant

  • Hello,

    I want to build the example applications which can be found in the <XDAIS_INSTALL_DIR>/ti/xdais/dm/examples directory (auddec1_copy, audenc1_copy, etc). I'm not using any DVSDK, just CCS v4 and the xdc tools.

    Regards.

  • Unfortunately, ELF symbols are different than COFF symbols - I think COFF adds an underscore prefix to each symbol, ELF doesn't.  In XDAIS 6.x and earlier, as far as the TI toolchain goes, the XDAIS examples only built for COFF-based toolchains.  We added ELF-based TI toolchain support in XDAIS 7.x and higher.

    There's an asm statement in the example codecs that causes a problem with ELF toolchains; it looks like this in the auddec1_copy example:

    #ifdef __TI_COMPILER_VERSION__
    /* satisfy XDAIS symbol requirement without any overhead */
    asm("_AUDDEC1COPY_TI_IALG .set _AUDDEC1COPY_TI_IAUDDEC1COPY");

    #else
    ...
    #endif

    In the XDAIS 7.x releases and newer, where we have ELF support, that block of code looks like this instead:

    #ifdef __TI_COMPILER_VERSION__
    /* satisfy XDAIS symbol requirement without any overhead */
    #if defined(__TI_ELFABI__) || defined(__TI_EABI_SUPPORT__)

    /* Symbol doesn't have any leading underscores */
    asm("AUDDEC1COPY_TI_IALG .set AUDDEC1COPY_TI_IAUDDEC1COPY");

    #else

    /* Symbol has a single leading underscore */
    asm("_AUDDEC1COPY_TI_IALG .set _AUDDEC1COPY_TI_IAUDDEC1COPY");

    #endif
    #else
    ...
    #endif

    You can make this change yourself (unfortunately in each example), or you could update to a newer XDAIS 7.x release.  We need to add the 7.x releases to the main XDAIS download page (and you're giving me the energy to do that now)... but you can get the 7.10.00.06 release here:

    Chris

  • Thank you Chris, that did it!

    After removing the leading underscores, I was able to build the examples. Unfortunately I can't verify your answer because the "verify" link produces a page load error (had that error several times before).

    Regards!
